Chimney Sweep and Cleaning in Trophy Club

Trophy Club was laid out in 1973 around a country club with a Ben Hogan golf course, and it was one of the first planned communities in Texas. The streets around Trophy Club Drive, Indian Creek Drive and the Hogan and Whitworth courses filled in through the 1980s and 1990s. Hogan’s Glen, The Lakes and The Highlands came later. So the town has a real mix: 1980s brick homes with full masonry chimneys near the clubhouse, 1990s homes with factory-built metal fireplaces in siding chases, and newer custom homes with two or three gas fireplaces.

Each kind gets a different brush, and Flower Mound Chimney Sweep Professionals carries all of them. A clay tile flue is swept with a wire brush on rods. A metal flue gets a poly brush so the liner is not scratched. In both cases the fireplace is sealed, a HEPA vacuum runs the whole time, and the smoke chamber and firebox are cleaned along with the flue. The chimney sweep ends with a camera check and photos. NFPA 211 calls for every chimney to be inspected once a year, and a sweep whenever creosote has built up.

Chimney Inspection

A Level 1 chimney inspection comes with every sweep. We check the firebox, damper, smoke chamber and visible flue from inside, then the cap, crown or chase cover, and flashing from the roof. For a home sale, after a chimney fire, or on a 1980s chimney that has never had a camera in it, book a Level 2 inspection. It adds a video scan of the full flue and a written report.

Chimney Repair in Trophy Club

The lake adds wind and the open golf course adds hail with nothing to slow it down. On factory-built fireplaces the first thing to fail is the chase cover, the flat metal lid on top of the siding chase, which rusts through and drips onto the firebox. On masonry chimneys it is the crown and the flashing. Our chimney repair work covers chase covers, siding and chase repair, crown repair, flashing, leak repair, tuckpointing, chimney caps and relining. We photograph the problem, explain it in plain words and give a free written estimate. The written price is the price you pay.

Fireplace and Gas Log Service

Gas logs are in most Trophy Club fireplaces, and the usual complaints are a pilot that will not stay lit, a burner that lights late with a pop, or soot on the logs and glass. These are gas fireplace repair visits, and most are done in one trip. We also install and swap gas log sets, clean wood-burning fireboxes and glass doors, and free up dampers that have rusted shut. Gas line work is done by a licensed plumber, as Texas law requires, and we coordinate that visit with ours.

Signs a Trophy Club Chimney Needs Attention

  • Rust stains on the siding below the chase top
  • Smoke in the room when the fire is lit
  • A campfire or sour smell in the house during humid weather
  • Water or rust flakes in the firebox after rain
  • A pilot light that keeps going out
  • Chirping or scratching in the flue
  • More than a year since the last sweep or inspection

One of these is reason to book. Two or more means stop using the fireplace until it is checked.

How a Visit Works

  1. Book. Call (817) 518-6131 or send the form. We give you a time window and a firm price on the phone.
  2. Protect and sweep. Floor covered, fireplace sealed, HEPA vacuum on, flue brushed with the right brush for tile or metal.
  3. Inspect. Camera up the flue, then the cap, crown or chase cover and flashing from the roof.
  4. Show you. Before and after photos and a written list of anything that needs attention, with prices. You decide.

The U.S. Fire Administration lists heating equipment, including fireplaces and chimneys, among the leading causes of home fires in winter. See USFA heating fire safety.

Questions

Trophy Club Chimney FAQs

Do you come out to Trophy Club?

Yes. From Flower Mound it is Highway 121 to 114 west, then the Trophy Club Drive or Trophy Lake Drive exit, about 9 miles and 20 minutes. We are in Trophy Club and Westlake on the same route most weeks.

Most Trophy Club homes were built in the 1980s and 1990s. What does that mean for the chimney?

It means the fireplace is 25 to 40 years old. Masonry chimneys from the 1980s often need tuckpointing or a new crown by now. Factory-built metal fireplaces from the 1990s usually need a new chase cover and cap, because the original galvanized steel rusts through. The camera check tells us which repairs, if any, your chimney needs.

What does a chimney sweep cost in Trophy Club?

It depends on the number of flues, the creosote stage and the chimney height. HomeGuide lists a standard sweep with a Level 1 inspection at about $150 to $375 nationally. We give you a firm price on the phone before we drive out.

We hear scratching in the chimney. Is that from the lake?

Probably. Trophy Club sits on the southwest shore of Grapevine Lake, and raccoons, squirrels and chimney swifts all use uncapped flues near the water and the Trophy Club Park woods. We remove the animal, clean the flue and fit a cap so it does not happen again. Chimney swifts are protected while nesting, so from May to September we wait for the young to leave first.

Do you do Level 2 inspections for home sales in Trophy Club?

Yes. A Level 2 inspection includes a video scan of the whole flue and a written report with photos. Buyers and home inspectors in Trophy Club ask for it, and so do insurers after a chimney fire. We price it before we start.

Do you service gas fireplaces in Trophy Club?

Yes. We clean and check gas logs, burners, pilots, thermocouples, valves and venting. Gas line work itself is done by a licensed plumber, as Texas law requires, and we coordinate that visit when a line needs work.
