Chimney Sweep and Cleaning in Grapevine

Grapevine is the oldest settlement in Tarrant County, and its housing shows the whole range. The College Street area near Main Street has homes from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The streets between Northwest Highway and Dove Road filled in during the 1960s and 1970s. Countryside Estates, Winding Creek, Stone Gate and Glade Crossing were built out in the late 1980s and 1990s. Census data for the 76051 zip code puts about a quarter of the homes in the 1960s and 1970s and another fifth in the 1980s and 1990s. Those are the fireplaces most likely to be full masonry with a clay tile liner, and the ones most likely to need more than a brush.

Flower Mound Chimney Sweep Professionals starts every Grapevine chimney sweep the same way. Drop cloths go down, the fireplace is sealed, a HEPA vacuum runs the whole time, and the flue, smoke chamber and firebox are brushed. On an older masonry chimney the smoke chamber is usually where the heaviest creosote sits, so it gets its own cleaning. Then the camera goes up the flue, we check the top from the roof, and you get photos before we leave.

Chimney Inspection

A Level 1 chimney inspection comes with every sweep. On a Grapevine home built before 1990, we recommend a Level 2 inspection the first time we see it. The video scan shows cracked tiles, open mortar joints between tiles, and offsets or missing sections that a flashlight cannot find. It is also the inspection buyers, sellers and insurance adjusters ask for, and NFPA 211 calls for it whenever a home changes hands.

Chimney Repair in Grapevine

Older masonry is where repair work piles up. The mortar between flue tiles fails long before the brick does, crowns poured in the 1970s crack and let water into the chimney, and the flashing on a roof that has been replaced two or three times is often sealed with caulk instead of metal. Our chimney repair work covers relining, tuckpointing, crown repair, flashing, leak repair, firebox repair, chimney caps and, when the brick itself has failed, a partial or full rebuild. Every repair starts with photos and a free written estimate. The written price is the price you pay.

Fireplace and Gas Log Service

Many older Grapevine fireplaces have had a gas log set added over the years, often on a gas starter that was original to the house. A pilot that will not stay lit, a yellow or sooty flame, or a smell when the logs run are gas fireplace repair visits. We also install new gas log sets, clean wood-burning fireboxes and glass doors, and replace dampers that have rusted in place. Gas line work is done by a licensed plumber, as Texas law requires, and we coordinate that visit with ours.

Signs a Grapevine Chimney Needs Attention

  • Pieces of clay tile or mortar in the firebox
  • Smoke rolling into the room on a cold night
  • A sour, damp smell from the fireplace in July and August
  • Brick faces flaking off the outside of the chimney
  • A damper that will not open or close all the way
  • Birds, squirrels or raccoons heard in the flue, common near Grapevine Lake and the Parr Park greenbelt
  • No sweep or inspection in the last year

Any one of these is reason to book. Two or more means stop using the fireplace until it is checked.

How a Visit Works

  1. Book. Call (817) 518-6131 or send the form. We give you a time window and a firm price on the phone.
  2. Protect and sweep. Floor covered, fireplace sealed, HEPA vacuum on, flue, smoke chamber and firebox brushed.
  3. Inspect. Camera up the flue, then the cap, crown and flashing from the roof.
  4. Show you. Before and after photos and a written list of anything that needs attention, with prices. You decide.

Burning only dry, seasoned wood cuts creosote and smoke. The EPA’s Burn Wise program explains how to tell when firewood is ready to burn. See EPA Burn Wise.

Questions

Grapevine Chimney FAQs

How far is Grapevine from your office?

About 8 miles. FM 2499 runs from Long Prairie Rd in Flower Mound straight south across the lake to Highway 121 at Grapevine Mills, so most Grapevine addresses are 15 to 20 minutes away.

My Grapevine house was built in the 1970s. Is the chimney still safe to use?

Often yes, but it needs a camera check first. Clay tile liners from that era crack, mortar joints between the tiles wash out, and some chimneys were never lined at all. A Level 2 inspection shows the condition of the liner and tells you whether a sweep is enough or the flue needs relining.

What does a chimney sweep cost in Grapevine?

The price depends on the number of flues, how much creosote is inside and how tall the chimney is. HomeGuide puts a standard sweep with a Level 1 inspection at about $150 to $375 nationally. We give you a firm price on the phone before we drive out.

Do you inspect chimneys for Grapevine home sales?

Yes. A Level 2 inspection includes a video scan of the full flue and a written report with photos. Home inspectors in Grapevine often flag older chimneys and ask for one. We price it before we start.

Can you reline an old Grapevine chimney?

Yes. When the camera finds cracked or missing tiles, a stainless steel liner is the usual fix. We show you the video, explain the options and give you a free written estimate.

Do you clean dryer vents in Grapevine?

Yes. Long dryer runs in 1980s and 1990s two-story homes clog with lint, and the U.S. Fire Administration lists failure to clean as the leading cause of dryer fires. We can clean the dryer vent in the same visit as the chimney.

Do you service gas fireplaces in Grapevine?

Yes. We clean and check gas logs, burners, pilots, thermocouples, valves and venting. Gas line work itself is done by a licensed plumber, as Texas law requires, and we coordinate that visit when a line needs to be run or extended.
